Updates with Previews for vs Stranger Stuff, Stock Art, 5th Edition Fantasy, and More!

Hello All,

Today's going to be a rapid-fire review and preview of products recently released, and still planned -- broken down by system. First up -- vs. Stranger Stuff!

vs. Stranger Stuff

We released Send in the Clowns: A Special Edition vs Stranger Stuff RPG (now available in an incredible hardcover edition!) only three weeks ago, but we've already got a new one all but done -- Summer C.A.M.P. from Ben Dowell.

Just look at that beautiful layout The Fattest Goblin has going on!

Schools out, and the Kids’ parents hooked them up with a sweet gig that will make adults of them all — fixing up Camp Hope, an ideal property on a picturesque lake just outside of town. The fact that it was the scene of several grisly murders performed by a deranged camp counselor in the 1960’s is nearly called an “urban legend,” but the camp was closed after a series of lawsuits bankrupted the owner over its sordid history. Now, decades later, the camp has a new owner who needs help fixing up the dilapidated campgrounds and he’s hired local teens to help spruce the place up!
But, something strange is going on. Tools go missing. Sounds wake people up at night. Odd lights are seen at night. Is this the ghost of a former camper? Perhaps the “Camp Creeper” has returned? Only the Kids can figure this mystery out!

Keep an eye on the vs. M Engine Games over on DriveThruRPG for both this AND the all new vs. the Wasteland post-apocalyptic vs. M Engine game!

5th Edition Fantasy

I just finished a copy-edit pass on a new Expanded Options book from Ishmaelstorm, our resident Line Developer for 5th Edition Fantasy. That one, on Skill Specializations, should be available very soon too -- but in the meantime, show some love for our new Creature Card Catalogue!

The first pack of four cards is available, but we have a LOT more planned in this line, with Ish and his team cranking them out quickly for hot-and-ready release. A great part about these is you can get them Print-on-Demand but they're printed on cardstock with hole punches set for where to do them so you can add them to your own 3-ring binder!

Brutal Beasts!

Beasts are among the most numerous of creatures in any bestiary, but while most creatures are familiar and recognizable, they need not be so! Fantastic beasts that have evolved side by side with dragons and manticores are sure to have a few tricks of their own. Our short and focused bestiary showcases such terrible beasts for use in your campaigns. Surprise your players with Brutal Beasts today!

The beasts within this tome are meant to represent new and interesting animals that could feasibly occupy a fantasy world. Though many real world beasts surely inhabit your world of choice, there is plenty of room for amazing new beasts that exhibit great strength or curious talents that make them tough or deadly.

The following beasts have been carefully considered not only for fighting prowess, but for their ability to thrive and compete in ecosystems that contain awful aberrations, deadly dragons, and magnificent monstrosities. These are Brutal Beasts!

The Creature Card Catalogue is a product line that brings you a set of 5th edition monsters printed on cardstock and ready to be hole-punched and collected in a 3-ring binder or simply used as a pdf. Each set presents a set of creatures marked by their type and keyed to colored symbols for easy reference.

And some photos from Rick of his print copies!

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game

And don't worry, we're still showing a bit of love for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game (more on that likely next week) with releases like Equipment Tricks for Everyone from Matt Roth!

With a wealth of feat options at a player’s disposal, it can be difficult to find something new to define your character.

The Equipment Trick feat introduced new ways to specialize around the gear you use the most, differentiating your character from every other rank-and-file adventurer. With Equipment Tricks for Everyone, you’ll find dozens of exciting new ways to utilize your favorite gear against your enemies. Caltrops can be more than the circumstantial annoyance!

The Equipment Tricks for Everyone compiles the complete collection of Equipment Tricks originally released as part of our Sidebar product line.

Stock Art & Maps For Everyone!

And those that come to Fat Goblin Games for our Stock Art, we have you covered with some new stuff from The Fattest Goblin's desk -- a Pay-What-You-Will skeleton art set and The Fattest Goblin Himself-Himself's take on the "fairy dragon!"

And then we have a new line of maps for close encounters, they look incredible Print-on-Demand!

A PoD copy of the Fattest Goblin's own!

And Don't Forget Our Imprints!

And one more great little product I was fortunate enough to work on -- this time for Starjammer! Racial Repository -- The Scyleen

From the depths of an ocean world comes the tentacled Scyleen!

An extremely friendly and empathic octopus-like species, the Scyleen were delighted to discover that they were not alone in the universe. With the scyleen, exploring the land, sea, and sky was never so easy! Though quite suited for aquatic campaigns, the scyleen are equally suited for land and space adventures.

Included in Racial Repositories: The Scyleen:

* Full racial history and culture

* Alternate racial traits

* A new class archetype: Witch of the Depths

* Two new technological items

* And more!

This was written and laidout by Kristopher Cruz of our Imprint, Golden Glyph Publishing, and if you look at these page spreads you can see he does an excellent job of it!

Castle Falkenstein

I'll let you check out J Gray's Falken Friday and the Castle Falkenstein Facebook page for all the latest and greatest from him -- but I assure you, we've got some incredible stuff coming down the pipeline right now for that!

How Many "Busy Week"s Do You Need In a Row Before Its Just The New Normal?

How Many "Busy Week"s Do You Need In a Row Before Its Just The New Normal?

Hello All,

I've started the last few weeks' worth of Thursday blogs with some form of "it's been a busy week" I feel, and its leading me to wonder "How many times till I just see THIS as my new normal workload?"

Anyways, every time its mentioned it's always meant to account for a shorter blog that day, as I impart some little tidbit and move on. Today's going to be roughly the same. As I announced last week, I'm trying to get Landon Winkler, our new Shadows over Vathak Line Developer, "up to speed" on all things Fat Goblin Games, Shadows over Vathak, and Antikthon-related. To that end, just today, I had to bang out over 1,500 words in response to a single question/comment he made just to fully explain a whole rationale of why things are the way they are in the setting -- and that's 1,500 words I'll never get to directly publish (ideally, it informs a lot of his future work, so here's hoping).

For those that don't know, 2,000 words written is considered an industry standard for "a day's work" (i.e. 8 hrs) but almost every freelancer I know can explain that that's not really a meaningful number (one freelancer asked his friends in the biz "What's the most number of words you'd written in one day that were published?" and while I answered in the 4,000 - 5,000 range, some people on his Fb were giving 10,000-20,000 words! (which I also get, I wrote the 94 page Call to Arms: Mantles of Power in a fever-dream of 5-6 days, and almost all of that is original text (like 90%+) and a quick Word Count shows the original manuscript clocked in at ~60,000 words, so even at 6 days it likely meant I was banging out 10k a day).

Anyways, this is all to say a LOT of great stuff in "coming down the line" but adding to the hecticness of my life was my wife's birthday last weekend and my birthday on Easter of all things (upstaged by a bunny!). But I'm trying to send to The Fattest Goblin all the bits and pieces of Send in the Clowns, a compiled vs. Stranger Stuff RPG + Three Standalone Adventures for a Complete RPG Experience in one (fairly slim) volume!

While also still trying to get Landon up to speed, and get all the Hoardelings moving forward on their projects, while appeasing The Fattest Goblin of Them All -- AND we're even missing The Janitor largely this week because he's busy with life before shipping off for the next year to a different country!

Thank you all then or your patience and Happy Easter!

Research is not writing -- and Neither is Blogging!

Research is not writing -- and Neither is Blogging!

Hello All,

Just a quick one today -- I'm a week+ behind on turning over a completed manuscript for the next vs. M Engine game, and I know I still have days worth of writing before me.

But it's Thursday, and Thursday means a blog! But here's the thing -- blogging isn't "publications" and that's what we all need more of, right? Fat Goblin Games has a lot of BIG projects on the various burners in our kitchen, but all of them need to be finished up, scrubbed up, and put on plates in pretty presentation to be served to you fine folk.

As for me, and why I'm a week behind -- I recall a mantra drilled into my head during graduate studies at Michigan Tech -- "Research is not writing." And that's certainly been part of my problem. The current project is... research intensive, for good reason(s). But I need to stop letting myself get lost with 50 tabs open to answer a question like "how do you even pronounce that word?"

Then again, I also am having to chime in that fact to various writers... yes, we want you to feel confident you got the best rules language, you are making it as simulationist as possible, or that's a fascinating fact about the "true origins of the XYZ in D&D" but what we need is words on the page!

And with that, I'm back to it!

Fat Goblin Games 2016 Round Up -- How Far We've Come, How Far Yet To Go!

Fat Goblin Games 2016 Round Up -- How Far We've Come, How Far Yet To Go!

Fat Goblin Games has had a productive year, releasing over 200 products in the 366 days of this past year (yay, Leap Year!).

Of those products, around 55 of them (~27.5%) were for various Imprints like Abandoned Arts. Around 80 of them have been (or will be, one or two are scheduled to still drop before Dec 31st, 2016) various forms of Stock Art or similar products (~40%). That leaves at least 65 releases just from Fat Goblin Games proper.

All of those products lead to ~2,700 pages between those 120 books (the 55 Abandoned Arts + 65 Fat Goblin Games), for an average of 22.5 pages per release -- so not all were "small books." Dropping even our massive 840 pages from the Worldbuilding Journal (one of our most popular products this year!), we're at ~1,860 pages or an average of 15.5 pages. Hell, even removing the 450 pages of the Shadows over Vathak Player's Guide (~1,410 pages), we're still hitting 11.75 pages on average.

2016 was also the year of us expanding out beyond the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game & Stock Art, with 15 releases for 5th Edition Fantasy, and 12 releases for the vs. M Engine system (like vs. Ghosts, vs. Moon Men, & vs. Stranger Stuff, with adventures for all of them), and even a few for OSRs and system neutral games.

Possibly one of our proudest achievements though is our official reviving of the R. Talsorian Castle Falkenstein game and setting, with an official endorsement! With two books out the door, and sales improving, we're looking to do full support for Castle Falkenstein with both large and small releases coming in 2017 (read all about that here).

This is all to say that while 2016 was a remarkable year for Fat Goblin Games, "you ain't seen nothing yet."

Expect to see a lot more from us going into 2017, as we both support our existing lines and systems and expand out into releasing all new ones!

Thank you for all you've done for us, it's what keeps us doing this for you!
